The Newtown campus closed Tuesday afternoon after an electrical failure wiped out power in several buildings and required an evacuation of some classrooms.

According to school officials, an electrical problem was discovered around 3 p.m. in a manhole behind Penn Hall and Founders Hall. The Newtown Fire Department was called to campus as a precaution.

No fire was discovered and no one was injured.

Penn Hall, Founders Hall and the portable classroom trailers were evacuated in light of the issue, according to school officials. Power was out in those buildings, the Rollins Center, the 3-D Arts Center, the Hicks Art Center, the Music & Multimedia Center, the Allied Health Building and the Cottages.
