Rock-a-Thon, Racing for Charity and More

At the beginning of each month, Patch takes a look back at Council Rock community happenings and gives a sneak peek into what's coming up on the calendar.

 

The Council Rock March of Dimes Run for Babies 5K Run and Walk will be held Saturday, April 28 at 9 a.m.   All proceeds will benefit the March of Dimes, an organization raising money to save premature babies.  In addition to the Run/Walk, City Beat Fitness will also be on hand to host a Zumbathon. Closing date for race registrants is Thursday, April 26. Register today -- the first 100 participants to register get a free t-shirt! 

and schools will also be hosting events to benefit the March of Dimes.  This Friday, Newtown Middle School
will be holding their March for Babies dance. The cost to attend is $5 and all proceeds helping the March of Dimes organization.  Holland Middle School will be holding their Second Annual Spring Fling on Friday, April 27 from 2 to 7 p.m. The event will feature games, food and a variety of booths.  All funds collected throughout the day will benefit the March of Dimes.

Council Rock is calling for students grades one to 12, to use their creative energy to produce a three- to five-minute environmental film supporting the district’s efforts to "go green."  According to the rules, films will be judged on a variety of criteria, including accuracy of information, creativity, originality and the strength of the “going green” message.  A winner will be chosen from each of the elementary, middle and high schools and will receive a tree to plant at their school in their honor.  Additionally, elementary winners will be featured at the district-wide Media Festival to be held on May 16 at Newtown Middle School.

Council Rock students and staff have formed basketball teams and are in the process of moving through the Rock Madness brackets.  Two teams will advance from each elementary building and two middle school teams will advance from each school.  Finals are scheduled for this Friday at . Elementary division will play at 4:30 p.m., middle school division at 6 p.m. and staff division from 8 to 9 p.m.  Come join the fun and cheer on Council Rock’s twist on NCAA’s March Madness tournament.

Council Rock South

The Council Rock South Marching Band is inviting the community to its annual flea market and craft fair to be held this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fair will be held at Council Rock South and will feature refreshments, shopping and a car wash.  All proceeds benefit the South Marching Band. 

Council Rock North

The Council Rock North Dance Team recently performed at the New York Knicks-Cleveland Cavaliers game at Madison Square Garden.  The Dance Team performed to a sold out crowd before the start of the game.  The Dance Team will also be performing on April 21 at Waterfront Park in Trenton, N.J. for a Trenton Thunder baseball game. The performance will come before the 5:05 p.m. start. Tickets are $8. Contact Cassidy Davis at cdavis212@hotmail.com for information and tickets. 

Council Rock North held its Fifth Annual Rock-a-Thon from March 30 to 31.  The 12-hour dance event benefited Camp Discovery.  Each year, Camp Discovery provides a week of overnight camping for about 40 at-risk kids, without any cost to the campers and their families or foster families.  The Rock-a-Thon included a fun-filled night of dancing, a hypnotist, a volleyball tournament, swimming and food.  The activites from the night raised more than $11,000 for Camp Discovery. 

Maureen M. Welch Elementary School

MMW is sponsoring a Race to Play 5K Run/Walk event this Sunday. Racers will convene at 8:45 a.m. at the pavilion behind the school. All proceeds will go towards to PTO’s playground fund.  Click here to register for the race. 

Did you know that you could support your school just by shopping at Target?  Sign up for a Target Red Card and register it with their Take Charge of Education Program.  The school you select will receive 1 percent of all purchases made throughout the year.  All Council Rock schools are listed on the Target website.
