Girls Night Out, iHoot News and Daffodil Days

Each year, the Council Rock School District chooses a community charity to support. This school year, Council Rock has chosen the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  Throughout the school year, the district's staff and students hold fundraisers to support the charity.  To date, Council Rock has raised more than $23,000 in support of funding research to cure type one diabetes.  

Goodnoe Elementary

’s 12th annual Daffodil Days are in full bloom.  The fundraiser supports the American Cancer Society. Single stem daffodils are $2. A bunch is $25.  Last year, Goodnoe Elementary raised more than $1,750. Orders must be in by Feb. 21.

Holland Elementary

Student Council members from visited the
on Jan, 16, which was the district’s Day of Service.  Students read books and shared homemade baked goods with residents.  The visit was part of the student council's mission to better their community through service learning opportunities. 

Sol Feinstone Elementary

Thanks to the Council Rock Education Foundation grant awarded to , the first installment of iHoot News debuted in January.  The purpose of iHoot News is to allow the students to think creatively, work collaboratively and learn communication and technology skills.  Principal John Harlan reported there will be five more newscasts, one for each month from February to June.  Harlan said that iHoot news is another way to showcase all of the programs, events and people that make up the school community.

Richboro Middle School

On Jan. 20, more than 100 girls participated in the third annual Girls Night Out at   This event, sponsored by the student council, is designed for girls to have a good time with their peers, learn new things, get to know new people and even win some prizes.  The night started out with girls attending various activities, which included a make up demonstration, a Jeopardy-style quiz game and an ice cream sandwich making station. 

After all of the girls participated in each group, they had pizza, Chik-Fil-A and other snacks.  To end the night, the girls had time to dance, take a Zumba class, browse booths set up by local vendors or win prizes in a raffle.  Richboro Middle School teacher Suzanne Strange said the girls had a wonderful night and were especially happy to receive a goodie bag and hoodie designed by the student council.  Boys Night Out will be held at the Richboro Middle School on Feb. 15.

Family Math Night

Two elementary schools are holding a Family Math Night during the month of February.  Family Math Night is an opportunity for families to engage in
math games and activities to encourage the development of critical thinking and math skills.   will be holding a Family Math Night on Feb. 8 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. for families of students in grades dindergarten through second.  is holding a Family Math Night for families of students in grades one through three on Feb. 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and for families of students in grades four through six on March 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Faculty Music Recital

Council Rock music teachers will perform in a faculty recital on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the auditorium.  The concert will feature the faculty choir, orchestra and jazz bands.  The suggested donation to attend is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.  The proceeds from the concert will go towards the annual music teacher scholarships. Tickets will be available at the door or from any music teacher in the district. 

Kindergarten Registration

and new first grade students will be held on March 6, March 8 and March 9, 2012. After these dates, registration appointments must be scheduled with the district. Click here for additional information.
