Rock Roundup: Back to School

Welcome Back! After a rocky start, the Council Rock School District has finally opened all of their doors to approximately 12,000 students.

There's plenty of Council Rock community happenings this busy month of September. Here's just some of what's going on in the Newtown-area schools:

Wrightstown Elementary School

Principal Susan Marie Gormley welcomed back Wrightstown Elementary students on Wednesday, Aug. 31 -- one day later than most of the elementary schools in the district due to lingering issues from hurricane Irene.  Back to school night is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 12 (grades 4-6), and Tuesday, Sept. 13 (grades K-3).  Also, the family Back to School picnic is scheduled for Wednesday, Sep. 7 from 5-7 p.m.  The PTO is serving popcorn and frozen treats, so pack up your family, dinner and a blanket and join the Wrightstown School community.

Due to the delayed opening of Wrightstown and Sol Feinstone Elementary Schools, as well as Rolling Hills and Hillcrest Elementary Schools, Superintendent Mark Klein reported that to make up the missed school day, he is proposing to the Board of School Directors that the calendar be amended to have a half day of school on Tuesday, Nov. 8 (Election Day) for those four schools only.  Additionally, the missed first day of school for all students will be made up at the end of the school year now, bringing the final day of school to Friday, June 8, 2012.
