Rock Roundup: Battle Reenactments, Sock 'n' Buskin Fall Show, Hoops Mania

The school year is in full swing and there is a ton of stuff going on from elementary to high school.

Council Rock North

The Council Rock North versus South football game will be played at the Walt Snyder Stadium tonight at 7 p.m. It's sure to be an exciting night of high school football! 

Also, North's theatre club Sock 'n' Buskin will put on their first show of the year, Anton Chekov's "Three Sisters."  The show opens Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and continues through Saturday, Nov. 19.  Tickets will be available at the door.

Council Rock North boys and girls basketball invite the community to attend Hoops Mania Night on Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. at Council Rock North High School.  Admission is free but donations will be accepted at the door.  All proceeds from the evening will go to Coaches vs. Cancer, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.    

Goodnoe Elementary School

Barnes and Noble night is back! On Friday, Nov. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m., Goodnoe Elementary school will be hosting a book fair with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to the Goodnoe library.  This year's theme is PJ night, so come dressed in your favorite pajamas and listen to some of your favorite Goodnoe teachers read stories. 

Goodnoe Technology Night coordinators Julie Sourbeer and Karole Tobias said that the night was a great success and would like to express their thanks for all parents, students and teachers who worked to make it a successful evening.

Newtown Middle School

For the eighth year in a row, Newtown Middle School eighth graders reenacted the Battle of Bunker Hill at .  Social studies teachers Joe Fabrizio and Mel Benson organized about 300 students into two groups. The students dressed in red represented the Redcoat Army and students in blue represented the Colonist Army.  In the reenactment, the Redcoats outnumbered the Patriots two to one and ultimately triumphed, similar to the actual battle that occurred in 1775. 

Newtown Elementary School

After four weeks of collecting special treats for the troops of the U.S Army's 10th Mountain Division stationed in Afghanistan, Newtown Elementary students and their families sent off a collection of goodies weighing over 215 pounds.  Student council members are seen in the photo to the right with the 13 large cases that were sent to the troops.

Sol Feinstone Elementary

Bingo night for kindergarten through third grade will be held on Nov. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m.  Pizza will be served from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Bingo follows.
