A.M. Enrichment Program On Thursday's School Board Agenda

The proposal would establish a fee-based morning enrichment program for students attending afternoon kindergarten.

The Council Rock School Board on Thursday will consider a proposal to establish a morning enrichment program for students attending afternoon kindergarten.

The district hopes the program, which would be fee-based, would eliminate the push for working parents to get their children into morning kindergarten, according to officials.

At a school board meeting in January, Superintendent Mark Klein said morning kindergarten has traditionally been the preferred option for working parents because there are several private options for afternoon care in the area.

However, there are few options for private morning care, he noted. Often working parents who get an afternoon placement for their children end up instead enrolling them in a costly private, full-day kindergarten program, Klein said.

The proposed program would be housed in two of the district’s schools and cost $91 per week per child, Klein said.  It would be operated by Champions, which runs Council Rock’s before and after school program.

The school board meeting begins at 8 p.m. at the Chancellor Center. Click here to view the full agenda.

Prior to the regularly-scheduled school board meeting, an Act 34 hearing on the Goodnoe Elementary renovation and addition project will be held beginning at 7:30 p.m.
