Budget, Per Capita Tax Elimination on Thursday School Board Agenda

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Chancellor Center.

The Council Rock School Board will consider a final budget for 2014-15 on Thursday. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Chancellor Center.

School officials have presented a $214 million draft budget that, if passed as is, would increase taxes by about $40 for the average district resident. The draft budget includes an approximately one percent tax increase, which falls under the 2.1 percent cap as mandated by state law.

Also Thursday, the board is expected to reconsider eliminating the Per Capita Tax.

A vote to eliminate the $10 tax tied at a meeting in May; the board said it would consider the measure again with all members present.

Does the public even read these budgets? The benefit packages for the district is out of control. Healthcare costs are up 8.42% YOY. Are the employees picking up any of this increase? Then take a look at the pension numbers. The contribution increase is +28.49% YOY from 18.161mm to 23.334mm. These increases do not stop either. Forecast for 2015-16 is 25.84% to 28.219mm and 2016-17 is +29.27% to 31.965mm. You realize these were just 8.759mm is 2010-11. Mind you this is with a stock market at all time highs. So remember next time you get a tax increase it is not to better the education of your child. The special education budget was knocked down 9% for next year to 3.693mm.
