Second School Security Forum is Tonight

The forum begins at 7 p.m. at Maureen M. Welch Elementary School.

The second of three Council Rock School District forums on school security will be held tonight at Maureen M. Welch Elementary School. The forum starts at 7 p.m.

The final school security forum will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Newtown Middle School.

"Each of these forums is designed for interested parents to speak to the issue of school security," the district website said.

"The forums will allow for suggestions that may apply to both individual schools and/or district security practices. While input and suggestions will be welcome, a final plan will await both the conclusion of these three meetings and a public discussion with the Board of School Directors in February."

The issue of school security has become a focus since last month's mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

The first forum, held Jan.14 at Hillcrest Elementary, drew nearly 100 people. Several ideas to improve school safety were discussed at the forum, including increasing security staff, implementing a keypad lock at doors and installing glass breakage alarms.

The district has posted a full list of ideas discussed at the first forum. Click here for view that list.
