Upper Makefield Residents to Vie for School Board Seat

Diana Nolan announced this week she is running to represent Region 8 on the Council Rock School Board. She will face Andy Block and Theodore Caputi in the May primary.

Upper Makefield resident Diana Nolan will join Andy Block and Theodore Caputi on the primary ballot for Council Rock School Board.

Nolan, Caputi and Block are seeking to represent Region 8. The seat is currently held by Paul Anagnostakos, who is stepping down after 10 years on the board.

Nolan said her main focus will be lowering spending and keeping taxes affordable. "My primary concern in running for school board is the continual increase in spending and taxes over the past several years that threatens to price many of our residence out of their homes," she said.

Nolan is a Holland native who received a bachelors from Holy Family University. A registered nurse who worked at Aria Health Systems, Nolan is the mother to five Council Rock graduates. She also has a child currently attending Sol Feinstone Elementary, where she is a member of the PTO.

According to her bio, Nolan is a member of the Sol Feinstone Diversity committee, has served as a Girl Scout Leader for the last five years and is a CCD teacher.

"I have also been a member of Project Hope, a volunteer organization that serves the various needs of people in the community, such as providing meals, transportation, and companionship," Nolan said in her bio.

"I believe we need to streamline the school bureaucracy and change the way we operate our schools and focus on those expenses that directly contribute to improving our children's education," Nolan said. "We need to insure that our school board is transparent and that any decisions that may affect future spending are made with input from the public."

"There will always be a long list of projects that would be nice to pursue, but I feel strongly that we need to start making the hard decisions that will allow us to provide our students with a quality educations that our taxpayers can afford."

Nolan will face Block in the May 21 primary. Block is a former Council Rock student who has lived in Upper Makefield since 2003. He is married with a 10-year-old son who is a fourth grader at Sol Feinstone Elementary.
