Wrightstown Resident Announces School Board Candidacy

Wrightstown resident Le Sheppard is running to represent Region 9 on the Council Rock School Board.

Wrightstown resident Le Sheppard this week announced he is running to represent region 9 on the Council Rock School Board.

That seat is currently held by Kyle McKessy, who is running for reelection. Region 9 includes all of Wrightstown and Newtown Township districts 1 and 2.

Sheppard, a business owner and digital artist, describes himself as an "open government" activist. He has lived in Wrightstown for 15 years with wife Mary Jane and daughter Maggie, a Council Rock High School North student.

"For the past 10 years Le has attended manyy School Board meetings along with most local township meetings to listen, be aware, and express opinions while encouraging all others to do this as well," a press release distributed by Sheppard said.

"It's so troubling the way the process has closed up and become so much more internal over the years with the communication being so controlled," Sheppard said in the press release. "With school taxes being the biggest part of our property tax burden in the Council Rock School District area, we need everything on the table and everyone invited to the table for all the community instead of the business creed of the end justifies the means."

Sheppard, a Democrat who is cross filing in the primary, said he believes strongly in public education. "But our district is not a business and we must work cooperatively as a community to maintain the great educational system we have. I am very excited to have the opportunity to run for school board and for the chance to serve you," the release said.

McKessy has been endorsed by both the local Republicans and Democrats.
