Free Anti-Bullying Seminar to be Held at the NAC

The seminar will show participants how to use the teachings of Tae Kwon Do as a way to stop bullying.

A free seminar at the Newtown Athletic Club will show participants how to use the teachings of Tae Kwon Do as a way to stop bullying.

The anti-bullying seminar will be held March 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. It will taught by Shelby Gallagher, a 16-year-old second degree black belt who holds two Junior Olympic medals.

According to an event flyer, the teachings of Tae Kwon Do promote discipline, respect, and builds confidence and self-esteem.

“Through the study of Tae Kwon Do, a student learns how to respect themselves and others and develops the skills and confidence necessary to not only stand up for themselves, but also for others who may not have a high level of self-esteem,” the flyer says.

“The confidence gained through the practice of Tae Kwon Do allows a student to use their mind and words to diffuse and overcome a bullying situation.”

Martial Arts experience is not needed to participate in the seminar. The event is open to all ages and will feature a team of Tae Kwon Do Black Belts who will share their philosophies. They will also teach participants the basic self-defense techniques to increase confidence of all the participants.

There will also be music and a performance from an award-winning Tae Kwon Do demonstration team.

To attend, RSVP to shelbyplace25@yahoo.com
