Rugby Match and Social to Raise Money for Theatre

The Mayor's Invitational Rugby Match will be held March 16 at George School. A social will follow at The Clubhouse Bar & Grill.

Newtown Borough Mayor Dennis O'Brien has organized an invitational rugby match that will serve as a fundraiser for the Newtown Theatre. The theatre is currently working to raise $100,000 for a new digital projector system.

O'Brien has partnered with Doylestown Rugby Football Club to organize the Mayor's Invitational Rugby Match, which will feature some of the area's best rugby players, according to a press release.

The match will be held March 16 at 10:30 a.m. at George School; there is no fee to attend. Following the match, there will be a social at Clubhouse Bar & Grill, where the England vs. Wales rugby game will be broadcast live.

O’Brien is a long-time rugby aficionado, according to event organizers.  He founded The Hibernian Rugby Club. "He immediately recognized value in the dual-purpose opportunity of sharing the Olympics’ newest sport while supporting local fund-raising efforts," an event press release said.

Raffles and sponsorships will raise money for the digital projector fund at the Newtown Theatre. Sponsors include Clubhouse Bar & Grill, Huntsworth Healthcare, George School and the Newtown Athletic Club.
