Tri-Township Wins First Game at Babe Ruth World Series

The U15 team beat Trumbull, Conn. 8-1 Saturday afternoon.

Tri-Township U15 Babe Ruth baseball team today won its first game at the Babe Ruth World Series in Jamestown, N.Y. The local team beat Trumbull, Conn. 8-1 in a game this afternoon.

Brad Stolfzfus collected three hits and drove in two runs, Max German (double) added two hits and two RBIs and Dalton Smoot scattered four hits and allowed one earned run in six innings of work to lift Tri-Township to an 8-1 victory in the opening game of the Babe Ruth  World Series in Jamestown, N.Y.

The game was tied, 1-1, until the bottom of the fifth when the Mid-Atlantic Regional champs scored three runs, highlighted by RBI singles by Stoltzfus and Robbie Welhaf.

Tri-Township added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to break the game open. Devan Birch had a sacrifice fly, Robbie Knox had an RBI single and German and Stoltzfus both had RBI doubles.

The only run for Trumbull came in the fifth courtesy of pinch hitter Nick Weinstein's run-scoring single.

Stanley Wolpiuk took the loss, giving up four runs, three earned in five innings.

Stoltzfus and Weinstein were named the most outstanding players for their respective teams.
