Hundreds Brave Heat for First Fourth Parade
Hot temperatures didn't stop locals from attending Saturday's parade.
As temperatures broke the 100 degree mark Saturday afternoon, hundreds of people lined the streets of Newtown to see the annual First Fourth parade.
“Today was by far the hottest day we’ve ever had for the parade,” Mick Petrucci, president of the Newtown Business Association, said after the parade ended.
Due to the hot weather and high humidity, one of the revolutionary war reenactors had to be treated by medics from the Newtown Ambulance Squad at the conclusion of the roughly one-mile-long parade.

“Yes, it’s hot,” said parade-goer Susan Voksne, who traveled from Doylestown with her grandson to see the parade. “But there’s no place I’d rather be than at this parade.”

The fireworks show was postponed Saturday evening after the threat of thunderstorms and will be held tonight at Newtown Middle School.
