July Ends with Gas Prices 20 Cents Higher

Gas prices drop 1 cent since last week, but prices are up about 20 cents from June.

In the Bucks and Montgomery area, July ends with the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline at $3.625 per gallon, which is .6 cents lower than a week ago, but 21.6 cents higher than a month ago, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.

That is the largest increase for July in more than a dozen years. Drivers nationwide saw prices reverse in July after three months of steady declines at the pump. Higher global oil prices and increased demand for gasoline during the busy summer driving season were the primary factors that sent pump prices higher in July.

However, the local pump prices are still 17.3 cents lower than a year ago. And AAA predicts that gas prices for August likely will remain relatively flat through Labor Day.

Locally, the cheapest price for regular gas is $3.80 at the Kerrigan Sunoco on Washington Avenue.
