Solebury Organic Farm Site of Final Summer Farm Evening

The final summer farm evening will be held Wednesday at Roots to River Farm in Solebury.

The summer farm evenings, which feature a tour and pot luck dinner, are organized by the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance.

The monthly events are designed to introduce consumers to the local small-scale producers who put the freshest foods onto our tables via direct sales, community-supported agriculture operations (CSAs), farmers markets, farm stands and other venues, according to the organization.

Roots to River Farm is a new “transitional organic” farming operation owned by young farmer Malaika Spenser, a Bucks County native who is returning to her roots after years of experience on farms throughout the country and abroad.

The 12.5-acre operation in Solebury is currently producing its first season of vegetables with no-pesticides or no-herbicides for 65 full and half CSA shares and to sell at area farmers markets in Doylestown, Ottsville and Easton.

Spencer and co-farmer/assistant farm manager Amanda Midkiff are transitioning the leased land from conventionally farmed corn and soybean to a four-season organic CSA.

Located at 3211 North Sugan Road, New Hope, 18938, Roots to River Farm is 20 minutes from the center of Doylestown and about 150 yards northwest of Solebury Township’s municipal offices.

The evening’s pot luck meal will run from 6 to 7 p.m., with the tour to follow. Visitors are expected to bring a dish to share with others and their family’s own eating equipment, beverages and seating, and they are expected to carry out their own trash.

Although the farm tours are free, donations to BCFA’s programs are encouraged. The event is appropriate for school-aged children who are under an adult’s careful supervision.
