What's all the panic about?

Supermarkets and Snowstorms

Do you realize that everytime the news posts we are going to have a snowstorm, everyone flocks to the supermarket? What is it in our brains that makes us want to whip up a cake or Carmelized French toast? Even if the snowstorm will keep us in for the weekend, don't we have enough food to sustain us for two days? Being from South Philadelphia, the supermarkets looked like a nightclub at the mere thought of a snowstorm. I would go in and see everyone I knew and catch up on some old friends while standing in the checkout line with a cart full of food. I had to be dressed because God forbid I go there in sweats and sneakers. I didn't want anyone to see me that way, since I knew I would see everyone and their grandmother there. Since moving to Newtown, it's definitely different, but I still see the panic in people's eyes as I pass them in the aisles. I wonder if the media made a deal with the supermarkets to drum up business? Anyway, the food is in the freezer, because it was not the snowstorm that was expected. Maybe it'll save me a trip the next time. Until then......
