The Newtown Creek Coalition is seeking volunteers to help with Saturday's cleanup, which begins at 9 a.m.
Volunteers will meet in the Newtown Borough municipal lot on Centre Ave, behind the . Cleanup work will be done on both sides of the Newtown Creek between Centre and Washington avenues, according to organizers.
Waste Management has agreed to provide a large dumpster for the day and free disposal.
The Newtown Creek Coalition started as a community partnership in 2006 with a goal of coordinating the efforts of residents, businesses and various government groups all with an interest in the future of Newtown Creek. It became a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation with tax-exempt status earlier this year.
