Kilt Night to Benefit Local Food Pantry

The local Ancient Order of the Hiberians will host a Celtic Kilt Night this Saturday to benefit the Penndel Food Pantry.

Break out your Irish duds this weekend for the second Celtic Kilt Night and help a local food pantry in the process.

This Saturday, members of the community – Irish or not – are invited to join the local Ancient Order of the Hiberians at the Northampton Country Club for a night of music, dancing, food and a silent auction. The event will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. and is open to everyone.

Since part of the group's mission is to feed the hungry, the auction will benefit the Penndel Food Pantry through the Bucks County Opportunity Council. There will be other fundraising opportunities like a 50/50 as well, event organizer Paul Wehner said.

"I want to emphasize that you do not have to be Irish to attend and the monies collected through the night will help feed the hungry in our own community," he said.

The menu includes a mashed potato station, antipasto, butlered hors d'oeuvres, a Viennese sweets table, beer, wine and soft drinks. There will be a disc jockey playing Irish music as well as popular tunes, Wehner said.

Men are encouraged to come in kilts and but there is no mandatory dress code. The purpose is to have fun and raise money for a good cause, Wehner said.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians began in New York in 1836. It is an Irish-Catholic fraternal group.  Members must be Catholic and either born in Ireland or of Irish decent and 16 or older.

Tickets cost $55 and can be ordered online at celtickiltnight.com.
