'Light the Night' Walk to Fight Cancer

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's local "Light the Night" walk will be held Oct. 19 in Newtown.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is gearing up for its local Light The Night Walk, to be held Oct. 19 at Bucks County Community College’s Newtown Campus.

The organization expects about 2,000 people from Bucks and Montgomery counties will attend and help them reach a fundraising goal of $320,000. Last year’s walk raised $290,000 for the organization’s Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter.

During the two-mile walk, participants will carry illuminated balloons. Survivors will carry white balloons, supporters will carry red. Gold balloons are held in memory of loved ones who lost their lives to cancer.

Money raised during the walk will go toward blood cancer research, educational materials and local programs.

“Light The Night Walk gives hope to patients and their families and lets them know that they are not alone in their battle against cancer,” said Maida R. Milone, executive director of the organization’s Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter. “It is a night to pay tribute to lives touched by cancer, honor those we have lost and celebrate the lives that have been saved.”
