Newtown Borough's Beerfest Scheduled for Sept. 24

Beerfest will be held at The Stocking Works site on South State Street. It will feature more than 70 brewers, plus music and food.

Newtown Borough's Beerfest is scheduled for Sept. 24 and will feature more than 70 selections, including local favorites like Yards, Neshaminy Creek, Yuengling and Sly Fox.

However, the choices expand far beyond the reaches of our state. Colorado’s Boulder Beer Company will be presenting some of their brews, and the same is true of Michigan’s Founders Brewing and Vermont’s Long Trail.

If international selections are your favorite, several countries including Belgium (Palm and Vlezenbeek, among others), Ireland (Magner’s), Germany (Franziskaner and Radeberger) and Scotland (Belhaven) will be represented.

“This event is known for its unique mixture of beers with an amazing backdrop of the Stocking Works Complex on State Street,” said Andrea Schonewolf, the Beerfest’s event coordinator. “There will also be great live music to enjoy.”

All proceeds from the Beerfest will benefit the Newtown Fire Association.

Our goal is to raise money for the Newtown Fire Association by creating a fun and safe event. This day will be enjoyed by many local Newtown residents and beer lovers from all over the East Coast,” said Schoneworlf. “We plan on selling 3,000 tickets.”

While beers cannot be sold at the festival due to state law, Schonewolf said liquor stores within the borough have been asked to offer some of the brews available for sampling. There will also be food vendors including local favorites like Tre Fratelli's, The Clubhouse Bar and Grill, Becky's Deli, The Righteous Pretzel and Joey G's.

Guests may park at the former Stockberger Chevrolet lot, and no roads will be closed in the borough due to foot traffic.

General admission tickets can be purchased for $40 and will allow attendees to sample beers of their choice with a souvenir glass provided at the event, which will be held from 2:30 to 5 p.m.

“First Tap” tickets are available for $75, and include the chance to sample beers for an additional 90 minutes before general admission guests are allowed inside. This ticket also includes a t-shirt, a ticket for one free food item and admission until 5:30 p.m.

Additionally, there is a designated driver ticket for $10 that simply includes admission to the event. All guests, regardless of age, are required to show identification at the entrance and will not be admitted without it. Children are not allowed, even if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Tickets are now on sale at John's Barber Shop, Triumph Brewing of New Hope, Clubhouse Bar and Grill and Isaac Newton’s. They are also available on-line at www.newtownbeerfest.com, where more information can also be found.

If you would like to play during the event or are interested in attending as a brewer, please contact organizers at info@newtownbeerfest.com.
