No Breakfast Plans Saturday? Support Newtown Pink!

Head over to Applebee's Saturday between 8 and 10 a.m. for an all-you-can-eat flapjack breakfast that raises money for a team of local women doing the 3-Day For a Cure Walk in October.

Most of us know someone affected by breast cancer. If you want to help your neighbors do something about this devastating disease, then consider joining a team of local women for breakfast Saturday morning at

Newtown Pink, a team of eight Newtown moms, is doing the Susan G. Komen 3-Day For a Cure Walk this fall in Philadelphia. They each have hefty fundraising goals, so head over to Applebee's for an all-you-can-eat Flapjack Fundraiser. The meal includes unlimited pancakes, sausage, coffee, tea, and orange juice. The fundraiser breakfast goes from 8 to 10 a.m. and the cost is $7 per person.

In case you missed it, here's the text of a story Newtown Patch did a week ago on the team:

Between the eight of them, they’ll walk 480 miles. And they're hoping those thousands of steps get us closer to finding a cure for breast cancer.

In October, eight local moms will lace up their sneakers for some serious walking. The team, called Newtown Pink, is participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day For the Cure walk.

The walk is 60 miles per person (20 per day) and is completed over the course of three days in Philadelphia. Each team member must raise a minimum of $2,300, and the fundraising has begun.

They need your help.

Luckily next Saturday, June 11, you can do just that -- all while enjoying a hearty breakfast. The team is hosting a Flapjack Fundraiser Breakfast at from 8 to 10 a.m. The cost is $7 per person and includes unlimited pancakes, link sausage, coffee, tea and orange juice.

Members of the Newtown Pink team include: Kathy Skalish, Dana Zikria, Colleen Small, Tony Knappenberger, Randa Becker, Karen Leininger, Raquel Bergen, and Holly Waters.

Skalish is the team founder. She said she was interested in completing the walk after loosing a dear friend to the disease not long ago. This is Skalish’s first time participating in the three-day walk. “It’s been on my bucket list for several years,” she said.

The walk is based around the Convention Center in Center City, Skalish explained. Team members will train throughout the summer and fall for the long walk, she added.

While October may seem a long way away, Skalish and the team is working hard to raise money for a cause they say they hold dear to their hearts.

"This three-day walk will be an amazing, life altering experience--as well as a significant challenge--so the support of our dear family and friends will help us make it happen,” Skalish said, urging community members to stop by the fundraiser.
