Scouts Seeking Help From the Community

Two scouts who are making dresses for impoverished girls in South Africa are seeking donations and volunteers.

Two local girl scouts are seeking assistance from the community to ensure their project is a success.

Scouts Dona Lisciotto and Emma Lambert-Waldmann have embarked on a project that involves making dresses for impoverished or orphaned girls in South Africa. The project, which has been approved by the Girl Scouts, will earn the girls their Silver Award.

“We are turning pretty and fun pillow cases, fabric remnants and button down shirts into cute dresses for the girls to feel pretty and loved. We are also making little flower hair clips to go with each dress so the girls can feel special,” reads a flyer distributed by the girls.

The girls are seeking donations, like pillowcases, fabric remnants and button-down shirts to transform into dresses. Other items needed include ¼ or ½ inch elastic, thread, ribbons, lace, ruffles and buttons.

Plus, they’re hoping volunteers will step up to help sew. The girls are seeking assistance from anyone who has basic sewing skills. Sewing can be done at home or in small groups.

If you can’t sew, you can still lend a hand. Donations need to be sorted, counted and organized.
