First Saturday, Free Barre Class: Your Weekend

Here's a look at what's going on this weekend in Bucks County.

What: Newtown Borough merchants will be offering sales and specials, plus another food drive is planned to benefit the Penndel Food Pantry.

When/where: Saturday on State Street in Newtown Borough

More: Merchants will accept donations (chicken, tuna, beef stew, chili, hash), canned fruit, juice, baking products (flour, sugar, oils), condiments and all varieties of beans. Participating merchants will have window signs displayed.

FREE BARRE CLASS

What: Optimal Sport Health Club is hosting a free Black Swan Barre class, which blends rhythmic strength training with classical ballet exercises for a complete body workout.

When/where: Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Optimal Sport Health Club 2132 S. Eagle Road Newtown.

FILL THE BUS

What: Doylestown merchants are hoping to fill a bus will non-perishable food items to help the hungry in Bucks County.  The local merchants are working with the United Way of Bucks County and the DART Bus Program to collect the donations for the Doylestown Food Bank.

When/where: The Friday Night DART bus will be parked at State and Main streets in Doylestown Borough from 6 to 9 p.m.  

More: The main items needed by the food bank are: soup, gravy, canned meat/fish, coffee, chili, stewed/whole tomatoes, and other ready-to-eat shelf stable meals.

SUMMER MATINEE

What: The Doylestown Branch of the Bucks County Free Library will screen "Nim's Island", the 2008 movie based on the novel by Wendy Orr. The event is part of the library’s free summer Saturday matinee series.

When/where: Saturday at 1 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Doylestown Library.
