Holiday House Tour is Saturday

The 51st annual Open House Tour will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Newtown Borough.

Historic homes with festive holiday decorations will be on display during Newtown Borough's annual Open House Tour this weekend. The tour is a tradition that has been going on in the borough for more than five decades.

The 51st annual Open House Tour, organized by the Newtown Historic Association, will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature six homes and several public buildings.

During the day, the Half Moon Inn will feature open hearth cooking, colonial music and re-enactors of the colonial period. There will be refreshments, including mulled cider and cheese.

Tickets are $25 and will be sold the day of the tour at the Half Moon Inn and at the Stocking Works. Advance ticket sales are available online and at the Newtown Book & Record Exchange, 102 S. State St.

Leave the cameras at home and don’t wear your high heels. There are no photos or high-heeled shoes allowed in the houses.

The original house tour, called “Christmas in Colonial Newtown,” was held in 1963 and was sponsored by the Newtown Civic and Historic Association.
