Newtown's First Fourth: More Than Just Fireworks

This year, the festivities will include an array of family entertainment, including a "fun land" of inflatables sponsored by Party Magic.

Newtown’s annual Independence Day festivities, called First Fourth, will be held on Saturday at Newtown Middle School. The event will culminate with fireworks, but there's plenty of fun to be had throughout the day.

This year, the festivities will include an array of family entertainment, including a "fun land" of inflatables sponsored by Party Magic.

Festivities will kick off at 3 p.m. with the annual borough versus township softball game. Plus, there will be a demonstration of model flying airplanes, music and inflatables for children.

The food court and vendors will open at 5 p.m. That's when shuttle buses will start running from Council Rock High School North to Newtown Middle School.

"This year we want to emphasize it's more than just fireworks," organizer Paul Salvatore said.

The fireworks are again sponsored by Piccolo Trattoria, which donated $3,500 for the show. The local Italian restaurant also stepped up to sponsor the fireworks in 2013.

Parking is at Council Rock High School North on Swamp Road. Shuttle buses will be available to transport people to the middle school.
