FBI Agent Impostor Attempts to Scam Resident, Police Say

Someone pretending to be an FBI agent called a resident Thursday and demanded personal information, Newtown Township Police said.

The latest in impostor scams has hit locally, according to information from Newtown Township Police. A local resident was the target of a phone scam in which the caller claimed to be an FBI agent seeking personal account information, Newtown Township Police said. The resident told police he received the call Thursday and the impostor asked for personal information. The resident told police the scammer said if he didn’t cooperate, then police would come to his home. According to published reports, the hoax is the latest in impostor scams in which a person pretends to be someone they are not in order to get money and personal account information. The local resident did not comply but rather called police and gave them the number. Police said…

Political Nonprofit Skirting PA Election Law Targets Gov.

The Pittsburgh-based nonprofit, Pennsylvanians for Accountability, targeted four GOP lawmakers in November and is now airing TV ads attacking Corbett’s education policies.

By Eric Boehm | PA Independent HARRISBURG — A new political nonprofit claims to be holding Gov. Tom Corbett accountable on behalf of Pennsylvanians. But the group comes up short on the accountability scale, itself. The Pittsburgh-based nonprofit is called Pennsylvanians for Accountability, and in recent weeks it has been airing television ads attacking Corbett’s policies for supposedly short-changing education in order to fund corporate tax breaks. An article published Wednesday by Public Source, an investigative reporting organization based in Pittsburgh, calls attention to the group. The ads blast Corbett for playing a “shell game” that cuts money from education and forcing districts to lay-off teachers while “bankrolling big tax cuts …

No one was injured in a shooting that occurred Monday morning in Newtown Borough. The Bucks County District Attorney has taken over the investigation. The police officer who killed an 89-year-old neighbor of the man involved in a shootout with police at a Warminster apartment complex in February has identified himself in court. The sons of Jean Carson, the woman who drowned after falling into Neshaminy Creek while attending a party on Dec. 19, are seeking compensation from the party's host. The Warminster woman who is facing charges for allegedly stealing thousands from the Newtown Veterinary Hospital as a former employee recently had a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Donald Nasshorn.

Gas Prices Start a Seasonal Climb

The national average for self-serve gas has increased for ten straight days to the highest price in more than a month, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. The national average this for a gallon is $3.588, up 4.9 cents from last week, but still about 14 cents lower than a year ago. But according to the report, the year over year difference will likely continue to fade due to higher crude oil prices and refinery maintenance that decreases supply. In Bucks and Montgomery Counties, gas prices went up 5 cents since last week, making the average price $3.530, that’s .3 cents less than a month ago and 25.9 lower than last year’s prices. The Pennsylvania average retail price for a gallon of self-serve actually went down1.4 cents from last week…
