Pennsylvania State Police will conduct the checkpoints throughout Bucks County.
Pennsylvania State Police at Trevose issued a statement Wednesday of their plan to conduct a "Sobriety Checkpoint" some time or times between Friday and Sunday. "A sobriety checkpoint is a traffic safety checkpoint wherein Pennsylvania State Troopers systematically stop vehicles at selected locations to briefly observe drivers for articulable facts and/or behaviors normally associated with alcohol or drug impaired drivers," the statement said. In other words, troopers will stop drivers and ask them questions. If drivers easily answer them and show no other signs of impairment, there's no problem. No one was injured in a shooting that occurred Monday morning in Newtown Borough. The Bucks County District Attorney has taken over the investigation.
Bucks County District Attorney Dave Heckler said his department is devoting “significant resources” to investigate a shooting Monday in Newtown Borough. No one was injured in the incident, which occurred in the vicinity of Frost Lane and Edgeboro Drive around 8:20 a.m. Heckler said two shots were fired at a house. Newtown Borough police said they received several calls about the sound of gunfire. Police Chief Anthony Wojciechowski said the incident posed no threat to the public. The incident has been turned over for investigation by the Bucks County District Attorney’s office. Heckler said the office sometimes assists local police departments in investigations. A Cliveden Drive resident told police that someone took a purse and cash from the residence early Tuesday morning.
Newtown Township Police said they are investigating a burglary on Cliveden Drive that occurred early Tuesday morning. Around 8 a.m. Tuesday, police received a call from a Cliveden Drive resident who said someone had entered the house between 1:30 and 3:30 a.m. and taken a purse and cash. Police did not say if the resident was home during the alleged burglary. Police spokeswoman Jean Tanner said the incident is still under investigation and could not release further details. An incident that involved gunfire Monday in Newtown Borough posed no threat to the public, police Chief Anthony Wojciechowski said. According to Wojciechowski, there were reports of five shots fired at Frost Lane and Edgeboro Drive Monday around 8:20 a.m. Wojciechowski said there were no injuries as a result of the incident, which is now under investigation by the Bucks County District Attorney. As of Tuesday morning, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, Wojciechowski said. Trisha Lynn McLaughlin, a former practice manager of the Newtown Veterinary Hospital, initially faced charges of taking more than $350,000 from the business over the course of her 10 years of employment with the company. However, Judge Nasshorn reduced the amount of the alleged theft to “$2,000 or more” instead of the $355,790 the veterinary hospital says she took, according to phillyburbs.com. Newtown Township Police said a resident of Headley reported her Chrysler Town and Country stolen on Monday.
A Chrysler Town and Country was stolen from a driveway on Independence Place sometime overnight Sunday into Monday, according to Newtown Township Police reports. According to police, a resident called shortly after 10 a.m. Monday to report that her vehicle was stolen overnight from her driveway on Independence Place in the Headley development off Newtown Yardley Road. The victim told the responding officer that she was unsure if it was locked. Police entered the vehicle into the national data base for stolen property. While the officer was speaking with the family, he was informed of a suspicious pick up truck that was left unattended nearby.
