"The world is a different place and we are a different people." Those were the words spoken Tuesday evening by Rev. Doug Hoglund of Yardley's Woodside Presbyterian Church as he spoke to the crowds that gathered at the Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield to mark the 11-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America. Philadelphia radio talk show host Michael Smerconish, who helped with fundraising for the memorial, said that memories of the victims fade, but the memorial will help people remember. Motorcylist, uniformed public servants, volunteers and local youth organizations took part of the ceremony. At the end of the evening, visitors lit candles to help honor the nearly 3,000 victims who died on Sept. 11, 2001. Bucks County lost …

Patch is compiling a list of stories from readers on what they remember from Sept. 11, 2001.
I remember Sept. 11, 2001 was a sunny and warm day. I was in the fifth grade at Stackpole Elementary School in Upper Southampton. The school day began like any other but curiously many of my peers began disappearing from class; their parents were picking them up only minutes after the session had begun. Students began to question the teacher about why our friends were leaving so unexpectedly. She looked up from her computer monitor, wiped tears from he face and told the class that it was a beautiful day and my peers parents had all decided to take them to the shore. At such a young age, I believed my teacher. Little did I know, just a few hundred miles to the north, west and south that groups of terrorist were orchestrating the most …

The ceremonies marking the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks are over, but the lessons continue.
This week I learned a valuable lesson. Well, I guess I always knew the lesson, but it came home to me this week. My 9-year-old daughter and her friend, Clare, were sitting in my kitchen Friday. Clare asked the old “Pearl Harbor” question. “Mrs. Smith, tell me where you were on 9/11,” she said. Now both Clare and my daughter were not even born yet and aside from being transported back to that moment in time, I also felt a million years older. And a million times sadder. I was in my parent’s spot and I felt trapped. My parents’ intelligence seems to improve with my age. Today they seem so content to simply enjoy the moment. They are not concerned about monetary things and really do roll with the punches. I have not arrived at this …

Bucks County first responders, community members, along with local and state officials, gathered for a memorial service at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Croydon on Sept. 9, 2011. An entrance procession including the Knights of Columbus, St. John Neumann Assembly, No. 933 Color Corp., EMS providers, military personnel and police officers opened the service led by Father Michael J. Davis, who shared his reflections. "For me 9/11 is still a constant reminder that some people choose to do horribly destructive things to human lives and sadly, those plots still are in the wings and we naturally, I believe, we look for the other shoe to drop. But tonight, it's the message of remembering and thanksgiving," Davis said. State Sen. Tommy Tomlinson…

Thousands of people lit candles and remembered the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks at the Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield Saturday evening. To mark the 10th anniversary of the attacks, organizers handed out 2,973 candles, one for each victim of the attacks. The evening vigil also featured clergy and patriotic songs. Family members of those who died on Sept. 11 hung photos and placed flowers below where the victim's names were etched in glass. The Garden of Reflection was designed to be a place that honors the 18 Bucks County residents who were lost on Sept. 11 and Saturday's vigil was one of the many remembrance events, said Ellen Saracini. Google Bill Warner (political Islam), Frank Gaffney, Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer. These brave people are on the front lines trying to expose the truth. Now we have a dead Ambassador and other Americans. When will it end? Judging by the 1,400 year history of Islam, never. Islam means submit. They offer youI lslam, and the chance to submit, pay the tax (jiyza) or die. Congressional Rep. Allen …   more ›
