Third Annual Dance for a Cure is Saturday

Geo Hubela, creator, choreographer and director of ICONic Dance Crew (as seen on MTV's 'America's Best Crew') will teach two master classes as part of the event.

The Debra Sparks Dance Works is hosting its third annual Dance For A Cure event in memory of Phyllis Sparks. All of the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. The event, which is open to the public, will be held this Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the studio, 50 Walnut Ave.  Geo Hubela, creator, choreographer and director of ICONic Dance Crew (as seen on MTV's “America's Best Crew”) will be at the studio that day to teach two master classes.  The cost to attend is $80 per dancer. Event sponsors this year are Jakes Eatery, Burns Auto Repair, Newtown Friends School, Breezy Point, Vince Auto, Orthodontic Limited, Green Horizon Landscapes and CL Charities. Organizers say they hope to raise more than $5,000 for the cause.

Hoops Mania Night to Benefit Coaches Vs. Cancer

The fundraising event will be held at Council Rock North on Nov. 24

Council Rock North boys and girls basketball teams are hosting a "Hoops Mania" night to help fight cancer. The event, to be held Nov. 24 at 5 p.m., will benefit Coaches Vs. Cancer, a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.  It is free and open to the public. Coaches Vs. Cancer "empowers basketball coaches, their teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer," according to the American Cancer Society website. Hoops Mania will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Council Rock North's gymnasium. Local Resident Recognized by American Cancer Society

Borough resident Len Kudgis received the American Cancer Society’s “Volunteer Shining Star” award in recognition of his work and commitment to fight cancer in the community.

Newtown Borough resident Len Kudgis was honored by The Central New Jersey Unit of the American Cancer Society during the organization’s 25th Annual “Celebration of Life” Gala, held April 28 at the Westin Princeton. Kudgis received the American Cancer Society’s “Volunteer Shining Star” award in recognition of his work and commitment to fight cancer in the community. He is the director of marketing and communications at Horizon NJ Health in West Trenton, N.J.  Kudgis serves on numerous community health committees and partnerships in New Jersey. He is a member of the Trenton Crusade Against Cancer and currently serves as President of the St. Francis Medical Center’s Community Fund Raising Council.
