Francine Lobis-Wheeler, a 1985 Council Rock graduate who lost her son in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, was featured Monday on the Rachel Maddow Show. Lobis-Wheeler and her husband, David, sat down with Maddow to discuss their involvement in a new initiative, Sandy Hook Promise. The non-profit organization was founded by victims' families and community members in response to last month’s elementary school shooting. Funeral services for the 6-year-old who was one of 26 killed in the Sandy Hook School shooting took place this morning in Newtown, CT.

Bill Luby wasn't planning on attending this morning's funeral service for Benjamin Andrew Wheeler, but as he drove up Main Street in Newtown and saw the crowds gathered outside Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, Conn., he just felt that he needed to stop. So Luby, a resident of Newtown, Conn. for about four years, pulled over. He leaned against a large tree across from the church and watched in silence as the service took place inside the 142-year-old stone building. Benjamin Wheeler Memorial 5K to be Held Dec. 30

Benjamin Wheeler is the son of a Council Rock graduate who died in last week's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.

A 5K race is being organized in memory of Benjamin Wheeler, the son of a Council Rock graduate who died in last week's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. Fran Lobis-Wheeler is a member of Council Rock’s class of 1985.  According to information provided by the Council Rock School District, current and past members of the CR North Cross Country Team are raising funds for the Wheeler family by sponsoring the 5K race in Benjamin’s memory. The race will be held Sunday, Dec. 30 at Council Rock High School North. Registration is $20 and can be done online by clicking here.
