It's no surprise that the winner of this week's Readers' Choice poll for best park in Newtown is Tyler State Park. Tyler Park received 81 percent of the vote. Coming in a distant second with nine percent of the vote was Roberts Ridge Park in Newtown Township, which features a large playground that is popular with young children. Located off the Newtown Bypass, Tyler Park is a 1,700-acre property. The park features trails for both walking, biking and horseback riding, as well as playgrounds, picnic areas, and canoe rentals. The park's disc golf course attracts players from throughout the region. Visitors can also enjoy fishing and the pavilions, which have grills, are available for private rental. Where do you go when it's time to celebrate St. Patrick's Day?
In less than a week, Irish and non Irish alike will dress up in green and go out in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. Several local bars will have drink specials and live music. The Green Parrot is even hosting a two-day Irish Festival complete with music, Irish dancing and food and drink specials. This week, we asked our readers about their favorite local family-friendly restaurant. The choices were Applebee's, Chick-fil-A, Isaac Newton's, Green Parrot, Friends and Jake's Eatery. Newtown residents picked Jake's Eatery as their favorite spot to bring the whole family. Jake's received 400 votes. Coming in second, with 294 votes, was the Green Parrot. Jake's opened on Cambridge Lane in Newtown last year. There's also a location in Northampton Township. It's easy to pick a restaurant when you're going out for an adults-only meal. There are no worries about fussy babies, roudy toddlers or picky eaters. But when you bring the entire family, a whole new set of considerations -- like booster seats and kids menus -- come into play. Where is the best place in town to take the kids out for dinner? Readers choose First National Bank of Newtown.
We received a record-breaking number of votes for this week's Best Of Newtown poll asking readers about their favorite bank in town. The winner, with a whopping 11,928 votes, was First National Bank and Trust Company of Newtown. First National Bank has been serving the area since 1864. It has 12 branches in Bucks County, including the main location on State Street. There are also locations in Newtown Township, Wrightstown, Richboro, Washington Crossing and more. First National offers and array of personal and business banking services, as well as trust and wealth services. In second place was 3rd Federal Bank, which received 6,687 votes. Who won our weekly poll?
On Monday we turned to our readers and asked a key question about life in Newtown: who has the best take out? The votes are in and readers chose Meglio's, which serves pizza and other Italian favorites. On weekend nights, Meglio's, which is known for its brick oven pizza, is typically packed with people enjoying eat in and a line with folks waiting for take out. Meglio's received 24 percent of the vote. Behind Meglio's, with 19 percent of the vote, was Oishi. Located in the Village at Newtown Shopping Center, Oishi serves Japanese, Korean and Thai dishes.
