Gun Sales Need Expanded Background Checks, State Rep. Says

If State Rep. Steve Santarsiero's bill is passed, Pennsylvania would be the sixth state to close the loophole for background checks on long guns in private sales.

State Rep. Steve Santarsiero is calling for a vote on a bill that would expand background checks on firearms sales. His sponsored legislation, House Bill 1010, would require universal background checks for all firearm sales. “Right now in Pennsylvania, criminals may lawfully purchase an assault rifle even though it is illegal for that same criminal to purchase a handgun,” Santarsiero said during a news conference in Harrisburg Wednesday. Santarsiero said a loophole in Pennsylvania’s background check laws allows private, non-licensed sellers to sell long-barrel guns, including assault rifles, without conducting a background check on the buyer. I totally disagree with every comment made before mine. When are people going to realize that something has to be done about all of these guns getting in the hands of the wrong type of people. As far as the government over-reaching into our health, mental and rights to own guns, the comments seem to be very paranoid and conspiracy based. Police Seek Witnesses to Durham Road Gun Incident

A man reported to police that a motorcyclist with a pistol approached his vehicle Sunday evening.

  Police are looking for witnesses who may have seen a motorcyclist with an pistol approach a car stopped at the intersection of Durham Road and Second Street Pike in Wrightstown Township. A Newtown Township man traveling south on Durham Road Sunday evening at around 6:45 was stopped at a traffic signal when one of two motorcycle riders that were behind him allegedly walked up to the driver’s-side of his car with a pistol in hand, police said. The man with the gun only turned away and returned to his motorcycle after his riding partner began yelling at him, police said.
