In a bill co-sponsored by West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, criminal and mental health background checks would be required for sales at gun shows and online.
Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey (R) and West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D) co-sponsored an across-the-aisle bill Wednesday that expands background checks for gun buyers. "Criminal background checks are just common sense," Toomey said in a statement on his website. "If you pass a criminal background check, you can buy a gun. It's the people who fail a criminal or mental health background check that we don't want having guns. That can be done without infringing on law-abiding people's gun rights. And we ought to do it." Northampton Township Police held a press conference after a student made threats against Council Rock South High School.
Police charged a juvenile with terroristic threats and possession of a firearm by a minor after the 14-year-old threatened to bring a gun and knives to Council Rock South, police said on Friday. Northampton Township Police received a report on Thursday that a male student threatened to bring a gun and knives into the Council Rock South building and randomly kill students and staff, police said at a press conference at the Northampton Township building. The Newtown, CT school shooting has spurred some retailers to suspend gun sales.
Christmas shopping for the outdoorsman may be a little different this year. Dick's Sporting Goods has suspended sales of semi-automatic weapons at its stores following the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT, according to a report from CNN. At Thursday night's meeting, the school board voted to update a policy regarding meetings at the Chancellor Center.
After discussing the lack of language restricting anyone from bringing a gun to the Chancellor Center, where board meetings are held, the Council Rock School Board voted to update local board procedures regarding meetings. However the new language does not specifically mention guns. "I want the public to be clear. It is against the law to carry guns in our buildings," board member Patricia Sexton said. "That is what our solicitor tells us." Though the language has been altered to clarify that the Chancellor Center is "a building of the Council Rock School District, [and] is covered by and subject to state laws generally applicable to the grounds and buildings of public school districts," it does not specifically mention banning weapons. …

The Council Rock School Board is at odds regarding an amendment to district policy that would restrict guns at the Chancellor Center.
The Council Rock School Board continues to be at odds about the issue of guns and their appropriateness on district-owned property. The topic again dominated the Council Rock School Board meeting, the latest of which was Thursday. The discussion was a continuation from the last board meeting, in which some board members strongly urged clarifying district policy to restrict guns at the Chancellor Center. In the end, the board decided not to take action to amend district policy because of the possibility of infringing on the public’s second amendment right to bear arms. I disagree. I could come up with piles of gov't regulation that would save one life if we were willing to sacrifice some more of our freedoms. I would start with my favorite : you want to save lives, take away my right to drive my car faster than 90 mph. Very easy thing the government could do, yet nobody seems to approve of that.
