Newtown Arts Company's ‘The Sound of Music’ Opens Tonight

Music lovers’ "Favorite Things" will fill Newtown Theatre this holiday season.

  It’s an embarrassment of riches as Newtown Arts Company presents “The Sound of Music,” opening today at the Newtown Theatre. The show runs through Dec. 11.  With a dual cast of von Trapp children and Rolf, in addition to an expansive chorus, the production is sure to fill the quaint, historic theater to the brim with song. “We have an amazing group of women for the nuns and postulates,” said Music Director Susan den Outen. “Over 100 kids auditioned. We could have cast a dozen Liesls, they were that wonderful. So many came out who were talented. Newtown Ready to be “All Shook Up!”

Elvis Presley’s music will rock the house when Newtown Arts Company, through a special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide, performs "All Shook Up!"

The King, the Bard and a sorceress – of sorts – come together for Newtown Arts Company’s latest offering, “All Shook Up!” The musical, which is inspired by the music of Elvis Presley and a book written by Jersey boy Joe DiPietro, features the music of the King himself. It opens April 7 and will run through 13 at the Newtown Theatre. Loosely akin to Shakespeare’s cross-dressing, mistaken-identity romantic comedy “Twelfth Night,” the 30-person production is being infused with magical energy by director Kristin Kauffman. The petite Muhlenberg College grad joined Newtown Arts Company in 2009 and the board just last year.
