According to an article in the Newtown Advance, the pedestrian walkway on the Centre Avenue Bridge is seriously deteriorated.
The pedestrian walkway on the Centre Avenue Bridge is in poor condition and has seriously deteriorated, according to an article by the Newtown Advance. The Advance reported today that the pedestrian bridge was recently inspected by a company hired by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The company told Borough Engineer Mario Canales the bridge showed signs of corrosion, the Advance reported. However, according to the article, PennDOT is refusing to take responsibility for the pedestrian portion of the bridge, saying it's owned by the borough. The borough has contacted PennDOT to request an inspection to determine if there are immeadiate dangers to pedestrians using the walkway, according to the article. Click here to view the full …

The Newtown Democrats Club has endorsed candidates for upcoming local races, including Newtown Borough Council and Newtown Township Board of Supervisors. Incumbent Perry Warren has been endorsed for reelection to Newtown Borough Council. He is an attorney and businessman currently representing Ward 1 on Borough Council. The Newtown Borough Council on Tuesday will review plans for Steeple View, a mixed-use project at South State and Penn streets.
Newtown Borough Council on Tuesday is expected to weigh in on plans for a mixed-use development on South State Street. The project, called Steeple View, last week received final approval from the Borough's Planning Commission. The Newtown Advance reported that Borough Council will likely vote on the plans at its upcoming meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Chancellor Center. The Steeple View project features a three-story, mixed-use building that will likely feature the state wine and spirits store on the ground level and residential units above.
