Business Association President Bags Cancer

Newtown Business Association President Mick Petrucci was a guest bagger during McCaffrey's Grocers Fight Cancer Day on Wednesday.

Newtown Business Association President Mick Petrucci volunteered Wednesday as a guest bagger during McCaffrey’s annual Grocers Fight Cancer Day. Five percent of Wednesday’s total sales from the Newtown and Yardley locations will be donated to the St. Mary Regional Cancer Center.  In honor of the day, the store offered specials, held a raffle and had a variety of entertainment, like music, balloon art and face painting. Local officials and health care professionals from St. Mary Hospital volunteered as guest baggers. Other guest baggers included Newtown Borough Mayor Dennis O’Brien and Newtown Township Supervisors Chairman Mike Gallagher.

Annual Welcome Day Event is Sunday

Newtown's annual street fair will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sycamore Street.

Welcome Day, Newtown's annual street fair, will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Approximately 170 crafters, artists and local business owners will have tables with information, giveaways and products. The event, held on Sycamore Street, also features food, entertainment, kids activities and more. It is sponsored by the Newtown Business Association. As many as 10,000 people typically attend the annual event. This year, country radio station XTU will be broadcasting live from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The current forecast looks perfect for the event; www.weather.com is calling for sunshine and highs in the mid 60s. 'American Idol' contestant Courtney Calle will judge a singing competition during Welcome Day on May 5.

Business Association Card Exchange is Wednesday

The monthly business card exchange will be held at Joey G's, 861 Newtown Yardley Rd.

The Newtown Business Association will hold its monthly Business Card Exchange Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Joey G's.  Register online on www.NewtownBA.org. The mission of the NBA is to promote Newtown as a great place to live, work, shop and do business, thereby enhancing the economic vitality of the community for member businesses through networking, education, community involvement and coop advertising opportunities," a press release from the NBA said.    The association has been in existence since the 1950s and includes more than 200 businesses that network at monthly breakfasts and evening business card exchanges.

Annual Egg Hunt Set for March 23

The annual Easter Egg Hunt in Newtown Borough is sponsored by the Newtown Business Association.

The Newtown Business Association will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 23 at 9 a.m.  The free event will be held at Pickering Manor Field in Newtown Borough.  "All are welcome to attend this traditional holiday activity celebrating the joy and fun of a good old-fashioned Easter Egg Hunt for both children and adults," a Business Association press release said. If you want your child to get an Easter Egg I would NOT recommend this Easter Egg Hunt. A lot of kids walked away empty handed and in tears. The Adult Hunt was ridiculous. The men basically run over the women to get an Easter Egg. All you get is a stepped on hand or broken leg. They should have the group split into men and women. Would NEVER go back again.   more ›

Welcome Day Organizers Seek Crafters, Artists

Welcome Day is Newtown's annual street fair held on Sycamore Street.

The Newtown Business Association is seeking local artists and crafters to exhibit on Welcome Day, which will be held May 5. Welcome Day is Newtown's annual street fair held on Sycamore Street. This event is for artists and crafters that make and sell their own work. To register, click here or view the form in the PDF section of this article. Registration is $65 through March 15 and $90 after that.  The event features vendors, giveaways, food, entertainment, kids activities and more. Business Association Presents 2012 Awards

The Newtown Business Association recognized members and businesses at an event Tuesday.

The Newtown Business Association presented its annual awards at an event Tuesday.
