The township supervisors want to better define a more than 70-year-old ordinance that governs abandoned or junked cars.
Newtown Township is moving forward to better define a 1942 ordinance that prohibits junked cars on private property. Junked or abandoned cars are already prohibited by township ordinance but, officials say, it’s nearly impossible to enforce because there is no definition for what exactly “junked” means. Last week, the supervisors took a step to better define the more than 70-year-old ordinance by advertising another that outlines what constitutes an abandoned vehicle. Township manager Kurt Ferguson explained there have been complaints of abandoned cars that pose a threat to health and safety but since there is no clear definition of what a junked car is, it's difficult to take action. Under the proposed language, an abandoned vehicle is …

The $110,403 will be used to complete two projects—a dam repair in Upper Silver Lake Park and an Act 537 Plan upgrade.
Some municipal detective work by township Manager Kurt Ferguson has unearthed more than $110,000 for Newtown Township’s general fund. During a Board of Supervisors meeting Wednesday, Ferguson explained that he recently began looking into the purpose of a “benefit obligation fund” that caught his attention while he drafting the budget. His investigations revealed the account, initially created in 1994 to fund an early retirement benefit for two former municipal employees who are now deceased, had a pool of money that was no longer needed for its original purpose. In 1994, the township deposited $75,000 into an account for the benefit obligation fund and continued to pay into it through March of 2000, Ferguson explained. In early 2000, the …
The supervisors on Wednesday approved the development and stormwater management agreements for Delancey Court, which was recently purchased by Toll Brothers, under the condition that the clubhouse be completed by June 1, 2014.
The residents of Delancey Court who have long awaited the construction of a clubhouse can be assured the amenity will be in place by June 1, 2014 thanks to a condition approved Wednesday by the township Board of Supervisors. The clubhouse must be constructed by that date or the developer will not receive the Certificates of Occupancy for the final 15 residential units. Board member Rob Ciervo raised the issue of ensuring the clubhouse was completed because, he said, residents have lived there for many …

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will not be discussing the future development on the Newtown Swim Club property this week, chairman Mike Gallagher confirmed. The discussion about whether the site will become a trailer park or townhomes will instead take place at the board's April 10 meeting. In a letter to the township dated March 19, the attorney for developer County Builders, which has proposed a 56-pad trailer park for the site, said he and his clients would be present at the supervisors meeting Wednesday to discuss a second proposal for townhomes. However, Gallagher said the township received the plans for the townhome development Friday. "That did not provide enough time for our consultants to review the plans," he said, …
