A man with a history of violent encounters allegedly shot his ex-wife in Feasterville and less than an hour later died in Northampton after a gunfire exchange with police, officials said. Police say Kenneth Philipp of Richboro shot his ex-wife in a parking lot off Bustleton Pike and fled through Northampton. Action News reported the shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. as the woman and her daughter were picking up a dress from a nearby store. Philipp was then stopped by police at Buck and East Holland roads in Northampton, where he engaged in gunfire with officers, according to published reports. Police have not yet made a final determination on whether additional charges will be filed in the case involving threats of violence by a 14-year-old Council Rock South student.
Police continue to investigate a threat of violence that closed Council Rock High School South for a day in December. A 14-year-old who threatened to bring guns to school and hurt students and staff has been charged with terroristic threats and possession of a firearm by a minor. But according to Police Chief Barry Pilla, the case remains an active investigation. “We have not yet made the final determination on whether or not we will be filing additional charges in this case,” Pilla said. The threats caused Council Rock School District officials to close the high school on Dec. 21. One former Council Rock School District student was killed in a car accident Saturday, and four current students were injured.
A fatal car wreck in Northampton Saturday afternoon has left the Council Rock community mourning 19-year-old Cameron Smithwick, who died in the accident on Old Jacksonville Road. Smithwick attended Council Rock North before moving to Texas, NBC10 reported. The accident injured four other teens in the Council Rock School District, according to the Northampton Township Police Department. "Council Rock North and Council Rock South will have counselors available to work with our students in the aftermath of this horrible accident," Superintendent Mark Klein said in an email."Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all the students involved in this tragedy."
