Newtown Borough Council on Tuesday is expected to weigh in on plans for a mixed-use development on South State Street. The project, called Steeple View, last week received final approval from the Borough's Planning Commission. The Newtown Advance reported that Borough Council will likely vote on the plans at its upcoming meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Chancellor Center. The Steeple View project features a three-story, mixed-use building that will likely feature the state wine and spirits store on the ground level and residential units above. The Newtown Borough Planning Commission will review plans for a new state wine and spirits store at its meeting tonight.
Plans for a renovated state wine and spirits store will be reviewed tonight by the Newtown Borough Planning Commission. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Borough Hall. Developer Allan Smith, who owns the current state store property on Centre Avenue, is seeking to relocate the store to a building on South State Street. The proposal features a three-story building that would be constructed adjacent to the Sedia house at South State and Penn streets. The proposal would feature the state store on the ground level and residential units above. The Borough Planning Commission reviewed Smith's plans in November but tabled final approval so the applicant could make some recommended changes. Developer Allan Smith presented preliminary plans to relocate the store to a new building on South State Street in Newtown Borough.
The Newtown Borough Zoning Board approved several variances for a portion of the Steeple View project that would relocate the Wine and Spirits store to South State Street. Newtown-raised developer Allan Smith, who owns the current state store property on Centre Avenue, presented preliminary plans to relocate the store to a new building on South State Street that would meet the current standards the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is looking for. The new building would also feature 13 condos on the second and third floor. The Steeple View team hopes to construct a building that is roughly 213-feet-long. Developer Allan Smith, who owns the current state store property on Centre Avenue, is seeking to relocate it to a building on South State Street that meets the current standards of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. Borough Solicitor Bill Bolla told Council last week during a work session that the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, which leases the space from Smith, is pushing to update its stores so they are larger and more customer-friendly. Borough officials said the current conditional use process for Steeple View, the proposed mixed-use development off South State Street, has been postponed indefinitely.
New plans are in the works for the former Stockburger Chevrolet site and the current conditional use process for a proposed mixed-use development has been postponed indefinitely, according to borough officials. Newtown Borough Solicitor Bill Bolla said Wednesday that he has meet three times with developer Allan Smith, who has submitted a conditional use application to construct a mixed-use development on the six-acre site off South State Street. The project, initially known as Stocking Works II, is now called Steeple View. Bolla said he has been discussing with Smith the possibility of revising the plans so that they are more in line with the borough’s vision for the site. In December, Borough Council opened the hearing to consider developer Allan Smith's proposal to construct 121 condos, 40,904 square feet of commercial space and below and above ground parking at the former Stockburger Chevrolet site off South State Street. Tuesday's conditional use hearing for the Stocking Works II proposal, now known as Steeple View, has been postponed, borough officials announced. The hearing will be pushed off until April, however no date has been scheduled. In an email, Developer Allan Smith said: "We are working very hard to refine our plan so that it can be the best it can be and in the course of having conversations with any number of people, we have gleaned ways in which to improve our efforts." I like the development, except I think it's crazy that the retail on the first floor won't have an entrance or windows at street level! That needs to change.   more ›
