Trailer Park Developer Mum on Possibility of Townhomes

The township is still awaiting a response from County Builders regarding its willingness to develop townhomes instead of a trailer park on the Newtown Swim Club site.

The developer proposing a trailer park in Newtown has not yet responded to the township's request to consider replacing the current plans with townhomes, Solicitor Jeffrey Garton said Wednesday. County Builders in December filed an application with Newtown Township to construct a 56-pad trailer park at the current Newtown Swim Club site. The proposal was met with resistance from neighboring communities. In response to the public outcry, township officials in January directed its solicitor to reach out to County Builders and see if it would instead consider a townhome plan for the 16-acre site. During Wednesday's Board of Supervisors meeting, board member Phil Calabro asked Garton about the status of the discussions with County Builders …

Board Member Now Supports Townhomes in Light of Trailer Park Plan

But there is no evidence that County Builders plans to withdraw a proposal for a trailer park on the Newtown Swim Club property.

At least one member of the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors said he would support a proposal for townhomes at the Newtown Swim Club if it meant a trailer park is off the table. Supervisor Matt Benchener said when he cast the deciding vote on Nov. 28 to oppose a variance for 52 townhomes at the swim club, he believed it was a decision between single-family homes and townhomes. The property is currently zoned for single-family housing. Higher density townhomes require zoning relief from the township. However, he told Patch he has since reconsidered his position now that it’s evident the decision is between townhomes or a mobile home park. Since the original vote to oppose the plan was 3-2, Benchener’s reconsideration could be …

2013: Yes, that's me a demo -rat. I just find it entertaining, that people have their panties in a bunch about a mobile home park and want to tell a builder what to do with their land. When the previous ideas they had were shot down, they went with the allowable, but, now that's not allowed. Residents Plan Strategy Meeting to Stop Proposed Trailer Park

Residents of Headley and Newtown Walk plan to strategize Saturday to stop the proposed mobile home park at the Newtown Swim Club property.

Headley residents will meet Saturday to strategize on how to prevent a 56-pad trailer park from coming within feet of their neighborhood. David Wagner, a Headley Community Homeowners Association board member who organized the meeting, said residents of Newtown Walk will also be attending the meeting.  The proposal to put a trailer park on the tract that is currently the Newtown Swim Club has generated opposition from surrounding communities. Headley abuts the swim club property; Newtown Walk is just down the road. Swim Club owner David Platt is working with County Builders to create a residential development on the 16-acre property on Newtown-Yardley Road once the club closes after this summer For instant updates, follow Newtown Patch on …

Trailer Park Plans Likely to be Reviewed by Township at Feb. 5 Meeting

The Planning Commission will be the first to review the plans for the proposed mobile home park at the Newtown Swim Club. It is not known yet if the applicant is seeking waivers or variances, Solicitor Jeffrey Garton said.

Plans for a mobile home park at the Newtown Swim Club site will likely come before the Newtown Township Planning Commission on Feb. 5, officials announced at Wednesday's Board of Supervisors meeting. The Planning Commission, an advisory board, meets at 7:30 p.m. at the township Administration Building. Swim Club owner David Platt is working with County Builders to create a residential development on the 16.6-acre property on Newtown-Yardley Road once the club closes after this summer. According to Newtown Township Manager Kurt Ferguson, the application to create a 56-pad mobile home park will go through the typical development process.    That process begins with a review by the Planning Commission, which will make recommendations on the …

Community Reacts to Mobile Home Proposal

A proposal for a 56-pad trailer park at the Newtown Swim Club has generated a buzz around town.

A proposal for a 56-pad mobile home park at the Newtown Swim Club has generated a buzz on Newtown Patch. The swim club is closing after this summer and owner David Platt is working with County Builders to create a residential development on the 16.6-acre property. The current plan submitted to the township is for a trailer park just 30 feet from the Headly and Wiltshire Walk communities. More than 50 people commented on a story about the proposal that was posted to Newtown Patch on Thursday afternoon. Many of those comments expressed concerns that the mobile home park would drive down property values.  "This is very disappointing. I chose to live in Newtown for a reason. If I wanted to live near a trailer park, I would not have chosen …

Plans for Newtown Trailer Park 'Full Steam Ahead'

County Builders has submitted a plan for a 56-pad mobile home park in Newtown Township.

A 56-pad mobile home park just 30 feet from Headly and Wiltshire Walk has been proposed for the Newtown Swim Club site in Newtown Township. The swim club is closing after this summer and owner David Platt is working with County Builders to create a residential development on the 16.6-acre property. The application that has been submitted to Newtown Township for the mobile home park comes after a plan for townhomes was shot down by the Board of Supervisors. The application for a mobile home park will come before the township’s Planning Board later this month or early next month, Board of Supervisors chairman Mike Gallagher said. In November, Platt came before the township Board of Supervisors with a plan for 52 townhomes on the property. …

Supervisors Continue to Oppose Swim Club Development Plans

The township solicitor will go in front of the Zoning Hearing Board to oppose plans for 52 townhouses at the Newtown Swim Club property. The swim club is closing after the summer of 2013.

A proposal to put 52 townhomes on the property that is presently the Newtown Swim Club will face opposition from the township solicitor when it comes before the Zoning Hearing Board for a variance. David Platt, owner of the Newtown Swim Club, is working with County Builders to create a residential development on the property once the swim club closes after the summer of 2013.  His first proposal featured 64 townhomes – a plan that the township supervisors opposed in July. The swim club property, located on Newtown-Yardley Road, is zoned for single family housing and requires a variance to construct higher density townhomes. On Wednesday, Platt returned before the board of supervisors to present his revised plans to build 52 townhomes on …

Swim Club Owner Working on Revisions to Plan

David Platt, owner of the Newtown Swim Club, is working on revisions to a plan that was expected to bring more than 60 townhomes to the club's site.

David Platt, the owner of the Newtown Swim club, is working on making revisions to the planned 64 townhome development a local builder wanted to construct at the site of the club in Newtown Township. Recently, township supervisors vowed to fight Platt’s proposed sale of the nearly 17 acre club. Platt, who is sick with cancer, is reported by the Bucks County Courier Times to have a “handshake agreement” to sell the club property on Newtown Yardley Road to County Builders. Platt went to the board in July to request a zoning change for the property that would allow 64 townhomes to built at the site, the paper reported. The zoning change request "allows more units per acre adjoining the borough because it is more consistent with the borough’…

Supervisors to Fight Swim Club Townhome Plans

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors recently approved a motion that will oppose plans to build more than 60 townhomes at the site of the Newtown Swim Club.

What will happen to the site of the Newtown Swim Club when it closes next summer is unknown. If the Newtown Board of Supervisors have their say, it won't be the site of 64 townhomes. The board unanimously approved a motion at last week's meeting to publicly oppose swim club owners David and Geraldine Platt’s requested zoning change that would allow townhomes to built at the site, BucksLocalNews.com reports. The zoning change request "allows more units per acre adjoining the borough because it is more consistent with the borough’s higher housing density," the article states. The change would require a variance due to the fact that the club's property is close but does not touch the borough border. At an upcoming Newtown Township Zoning …
