The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors on Wednesday approved an ordinance that increases the required acreage for a mobile home park from 15 to 25 acres.
The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors on Wednesday approved an ordinance that increases the required acreage for a mobile home park from 15 to 25 acres. The ordinance won't have an impact on a pending proposal for a trailer park at the Newtown Swim Club, which will likely be replaced with a townhome plan. The motivation behind the ordinance “is to not have to face the threat of a mobile home park again,” Newtown Township Board of Supervisors Chairman Mike Gallagher said at a previous meeting. Earlier in the meeting Wednesday, the supervisors voted to support conditions put forth by the developer in order to resubmit a townhome plan on the 16.5 acre site. County Builders in December submitted an application for a 56-pad trailer park on…

Many residents, particularly those adjacent to the Swim Club, were pleased about the supervisors' acceptance of the townhome plan. But others said a bad precedent was set by allowing the developer to skirt the normal land development procedures.
A townhome community will likely be constructed at the Newtown Swim Club site instead of a trailer park after the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday passed a resolution indicating that's their preference for the site. The board, by a 3-2 vote, said it would agree to a series of parameters set forth by County Builders for the construction of townhomes instead of a mobile home park on the 16.5-acre site. Rob Ciervo and Phil Calabro voted against agreeing to the project on the developer's terms. Ciervo said County Builders should be required to follow the typical guidelines for approval, which includes going to the Zoning Hearing Board for permission to construct more units than permitted on the lot. Under current township zoning, the only "by…

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will discuss the future of the Newtown Swim Club property at a meeting Wednesday.
The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will discuss the future development on the Newtown Swim Club property at a meeting Wednesday. At stake is whether the site will become a trailer park or townhomes. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the township Administration Building. County Builders has proposed a 56-pad trailer park for the Swim Club site once the facility closes after this summer. The idea has caused controversy among residents of surrounding neighborhoods, who say a trailer park will lower property values. In a five-page letter to the township, an attorney for County Builders said in March the builder would consider filing a second application for the site that consists of 56 townhomes—provided officials agree to a series of …

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will discuss a possible second option for a residential development on the Newtown Swim Club site at its April 10 meeting.
The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will not be discussing the future development on the Newtown Swim Club property this week, chairman Mike Gallagher confirmed. The discussion about whether the site will become a trailer park or townhomes will instead take place at the board's April 10 meeting. In a letter to the township dated March 19, the attorney for developer County Builders, which has proposed a 56-pad trailer park for the site, said he and his clients would be present at the supervisors meeting Wednesday to discuss a second proposal for townhomes. However, Gallagher said the township received the plans for the townhome development Friday. "That did not provide enough time for our consultants to review the plans," he said, …

In a five-page letter to the township, County Builders said it would consider submitting a plan for 56 townhomes provided township officials agree to a series of conditions.
The developer proposing a controversial 56-pad trailer park at the Newtown Swim Club says it would reconsider building townhomes on the site—provided township officials agree to a series of conditions. In a five-page letter to the township, the developer’s lawyer, John VanLuvanee, says County Builders would consider filing a second application for the site that consists of 56 townhomes—four more units than original townhome application that was not supported by the board. The letter, dated March 19, goes on to say the second application for townhomes will only be submitted if officials agree to six conditions, including seven waivers of the township’s Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance. The township is still awaiting a response from County Builders regarding its willingness to develop townhomes instead of a trailer park on the Newtown Swim Club site.
The developer proposing a trailer park in Newtown has not yet responded to the township's request to consider replacing the current plans with townhomes, Solicitor Jeffrey Garton said Wednesday. County Builders in December filed an application with Newtown Township to construct a 56-pad trailer park at the current Newtown Swim Club site. The proposal was met with resistance from neighboring communities. In response to the public outcry, township officials in January directed its solicitor to reach out to County Builders and see if it would instead consider a townhome plan for the 16-acre site. During Wednesday's Board of Supervisors meeting, board member Phil Calabro asked Garton about the status of the discussions with County Builders …
