Doylestown Man Cited In Conjuction With Bus Accident

Kenneth Mitchell of Curly Hill Road in Doylestown was issued a state citation for meeting or overtaking a school bus after striking a boy exiting a school bus last week in Newtown Borough.

Newtown Borough Police have cited a Doylestown man after he struck a boy who was exiting a school bus last week at Congress and Jefferson streets. Kenneth Mitchell of Curly Hill Road in Doylestown was issued a state citation for meeting or overtaking a school bus. The victim, a Goodnoe Elementary School student whose name was not released, sustained minor injuries and was transported to St. Mary's Hospital as a precaution, school officials said last week. The accident occurred on the first day of school for Goodnoe Elementary School students.

PennDOT Suggests School Safety Tips for Parents, Students, Drivers

Parents and students are reminded to practice school bus safety, while drivers are asked to be alert and follow traffic laws.

As the 2011-2012 school year nears, parents and students should prepare for school bus safety with help from PennDOT, while motorists review school bus traffic laws. PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch, P.E. offered tips to help keep children safe on and off the bus. “Children can be distracted by the excitement of returning to school and reuniting with their classmates,” Schoch said. “Parents and students need to talk about being safe while traveling to and from school.” Parents should discuss the following safety tips with children returning to school: If your child walks to school, he or she should avoid using cell phones or wearing headphones, which can be distracting when walking near traffic.
