Steeple View Plans Approved in Newtown Borough

The Newtown Borough Council on Tuesday approved plans for a mixed-use development on South State Street.

Plans for Steeple View, a mixed-use development slated for South State Street, have been approved by Newtown Borough Council. Council approved the plans at a meeting Tuesday by a 4-1 vote, with Bob King dissenting. Last week, the plans received final approval from the borough's Planning Commission.  The Steeple View project features a three-story, mixed-use building that will likely feature a new state wine and spirits store as well as residential units. The plans feature an approximately 11,000-square foot liquor store on the ground floor with 13 condos on two upper levels. The Newtown Borough Council on Tuesday will review plans for Steeple View, a mixed-use project at South State and Penn streets.

Newtown Borough Council on Tuesday is expected to weigh in on plans for a mixed-use development on South State Street. The project, called Steeple View, last week received final approval from the Borough's Planning Commission. The Newtown Advance reported that Borough Council will likely vote on the plans at its upcoming meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Chancellor Center.  The Steeple View project features a three-story, mixed-use building that will likely feature the state wine and spirits store on the ground level and residential units above. Developer Allan Smith, who owns the current state store property on Centre Avenue, is seeking to relocate the store to a building on South State Street. Zoning Board Approves Variances for New State Store

Developer Allan Smith presented preliminary plans to relocate the store to a new building on South State Street in Newtown Borough.

The Newtown Borough Zoning Board approved several variances for a portion of the Steeple View project that would relocate the Wine and Spirits store to South State Street. Newtown-raised developer Allan Smith, who owns the current state store property on Centre Avenue, presented preliminary plans to relocate the store to a new building on South State Street that would meet the current standards the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is looking for. The new building would also feature 13 condos on the second and third floor. The Steeple View team hopes to construct a building that is roughly 213-feet-long. However, 120 feet is the maximum length permitted in that portion of the borough. The group asked for a variance, which was approved. …
