Valet Parking To Return In March

Borough Council on Tuesday approved another three month trial of valet parking, this time at a lower rate.

  An unsuccessful attempt at valet parking in Newtown Borough will be given a second chance, Borough Council decided Tuesday.  Last fall, the Newtown Corporation and some State Street merchants collaborated to establish a three-month valet parking service trial. The program, which began in November, ended early due to lack of demand. However, the borough will give it a second chance starting in March and extending through May. A new provider will offer valet parking for $5 instead of $8.  Gerard O’Malley, council’s liaison to the borough’s parking committee, said there will be an added emphasis by businesses to market the service. “The initial pilot was underutilized. Unsuccessful Valet Trial May Resume at Lower Rate

According to published reports, borough business owners will seek permission from council to do another three-month valet service starting in March.

  A three-month valet parking trial that began in November has ended early but may resume in the spring at a cheaper rate, organizers told the Newtown Advance. The service, which debuted Thanksgiving weekend, was available Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. It was sponsored by the Newtown Corporation and supported by The Temperance House and David Witchell Spa and Salon.  The car drop-off area was located on State Street in front of the Temperance House, but those who used the service were free to visit any downtown location. The cost to park was $8 during the trial run. Paul Salvatore of the Newtown Corporation said the organization is looking into a service that would provide valet for $5 a car. Why does Newtown need valet parking? There's tons of parking in town. Preposterous! Where are they parking the cars? It's just going to confuse things and unnecessarily take up space.   more ›
