ReplyLet us be clear about a few things:
Thorpe Farm being 100% committed to supplying eggs and certified organic produce -- Thorpe Farm is NOT a certified organic farm and they grow very little produce themselves. If they have certified organic produce, they have had it shipped in.
Local produce does not mean the store down the street. Produce Junction is not "local" produce - they bring products in from all across the country and from other countries.
Local produce means it has been produce right in the community where it sells. That way, if something happens, a community can still feed itself. Where would you get your peppers in the middle of winter if someone bombed the port in Miami??

ReplyBECAUSE WE NEED ANOTHER BANK IN NEWTOWN! Seriously, why did the township not use it's influence to get some commerce in this space - it is a great space.

Replympalm, while the Thorpes do hunt their own land, they do not shoot up their own buildings. Renee is correct when she says there are knotholes in the wood of the barn - a lot of knotholes that are small. I live very near the country club and the farm. We don't hear a shooting range from NJ, but perhaps it is the way the sound travels. We DO hear the hunters, but they don't shoot of hundreds of rounds.
However, this talk about Thorpe's organic farm is ridiculous. The farm is not certified organic. I am not certain if it is illegal to refer to your farm as organic if it is not certified, but I do know that it is not the industry practice, even if you grow in an organic manner. You don't use the term organic if you are not certified. There are other terms that are used.
What is impressive about Renee's replies to all these posts. She is factual and straightforward. Their supporters, not so much.

ReplyWilliam, I meant why can't Johnny read. Part of Obama's gun control initiative will have teachers, in addition to all their other teaching/social work duties, screening for psychological problems. Where are the parents?

ReplyWhy can' Johnny read? Because the teachers are teaching sex and drug education, screening for ADD, now to be screening for potential psychological problems. And now we are taking recess away because we have to keep up with other countries. No wonder kids are killing one another. Let's have the teachers, or better yet the legislators, run on the type of schedule they ask of the average high schooler. For my kids, it was up at 5:30, on the bus at 6:30, school till 2:30, activities, then dinner and homework until after 11. All so there can be time in the day for gender awareness, gay rights awareness, sex ed (one of my kids had an assignment to draw a penis with a condom going over it), drug ed....blah, blah, blah.

ReplyI don't support anything this shelter does. I have donated to Sandy Hook charities by other means. The Crossing Animal Shelter does not return phone calls when there is a serious need, even to provide information or guidance. Not at all surprised they are jumping on this bandwagon. Perhaps they should focus a little more on the community they say they serve!

ReplyJohnMcCriminal - I get (we all get) that you have a beef with John McGrath. If it is a true beef, if he has done something illegal, cheated the township out of money, hidden funds, or some other thing that is in the public interest to know, the be out with it and the specifics of it. Cheating on his wife, though disgusting, has not one thing to do with getting a building permit.

ReplyTrader Joe's has been contacted repeatedly about opening a store Newtown, and they have been firm in their reply that they are not looking to open in Newtown.
