350 Bucks County to Hold Pot Luck Dinner About Food and Climate Change
On Saturday, November 23, at
6:00 pm, a Community Potluck Dinner, followed by a screening of the movie, Nourish, will take place at Newtown
Friends Meetinghouse at 219 Court Street. Everyone is invited to attend this screening
about the relationship between the food we eat and climate change.
Two members of Newtown
Monthly Meeting, Jasmine Spence of Newtown and Kathy Harr of Langhorne, have
joined forces with Robin Hoy, co-founder of the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance,
to establish 350 Bucks County, a local working group of the environmental
activist organization, 350.org (www.350.org),
founded by environmental author, Bill McKibben.
This gathering will continue
the concern and conversation begun on climate change last spring following the
viewing of the film, Do the Math. This
time the focus will be on the local food movement and how important our choices
in food are to creating a more harmonious relationship with the planet.
Kathy Harr said “Please join
us as we launch 350 Bucks County and learn about taking on climate change with
our food choices. All are asked to bring a dish to share, preferably prepared
with local and/or seasonal ingredients. Following a shared meal, we will view
the beautiful and inspiring brief film, Nourish,
which traces our relationship to food from a global perspective. It will
illustrate for us how the food we eat is connected to climate change,
biodiversity, public health, and social justice.”
