What's Happening at Saturday's First Fourth?

Newtown's First Fourth, which will feature fireworks, music and food, will be held Saturday at Newtown Middle School.

Newtown’s annual First Fourth celebration is Saturday and will feature a block party and fireworks at Newtown Middle School, plus a softball game in the afternoon.

The day will begin with a 4 p.m. softball game at Newtown Middle School between the borough and the township.  You need to be a resident or employed in the borough or township to play. Contact Mick Petrucci (mick1973@comcast.net) to play for the township or Chuck Machion (cmachion@asicentral.com) to play for the borough.

At 6 p.m., the block party will kick off with food from Piccolo Trattoria, Best Darn Kettle Corn, Philly Pretzel Factory and Drinks and More. Piccolo Trattoria, which is sponsoring the fireworks, will be serving sausage peppers and onions, plus hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and pizza.

Attendees should park at Council Rock High School North; there will be shuttle buses sponsored by McCaffrey’s.

The event is free. The rain date is Sunday.

Plus, one lucky child will have the chance to signal the start of the fireworks show. Children 12 and younger can put their name in a jar at the Piccolo Trattoria food table. At 9 p.m., there will be a drawing and the child picked will signal the beginning of the fireworks.
