Police Tell Penn State Students to Stop Soliciting

"Canning" is not allowed in Newtown Township.

Penn State University students who were attempting to collect donations on Sycamore Street Saturday were asked to stop by Newtown Township Police.

According to police, university representatives had contacted the department recently regarding the rules surrounding “canning,” in which students attempt to collect money at street corners and stop lights.

Police advised the university representatives that the activity is illegal. “The officer advised the group leader of the law and provided them with a copy of the statute,” according to Newtown Township Police.
