Don't Forget: Library 5K is Saturday

The annual 5K race and kids fun run raises money for the Newtown Library Company.

There's an opportunity to get active all while helping out the local library this weekend.

The Newtown Library Company's annual 5K race is Saturday at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a one-mile fun run, which starts at 9 a.m.

The course starts at the and goes in and out of neighborhoods north of Washington Ave.

Warm up for the kids fun run starts at 8:30 a.m. will be led by Council Rock graduate Yvonne Horn.  Elle Kaplan of will do a 9 a.m. warm-up for the 5K race.  

The fundraiser brings in between $7,000 and $8,000, which comes from sponsors as well as runner registration fees, organizers said. The monies are used for the purchase of books, organizers said.

On average, between 150 and 200 people participate, organizers said. Walkers are welcome. The event will be held rain or shine, however the weather is supposed to be nice, according to forecasts. Sunny skies and temperatures in the low 60s ae expected.

The cost to participate is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the kids fun run.
